Why doesn't mopping get my grout clean?
Grout sits lower than the tile and it's porous, so a mop rides across the tile and skims over the recessed grout line, dragging dirty water into it where it dries. It can't get down into the joint or apply real scrubbing pressure. Over time that builds up as a darker, dingy color you can't scrub off from the top. Getting it clean means scrubbing the soil back out of the pores, not pushing more water across the surface.
Can you really restore the original grout color?
In most cases, yes. What looks like permanently stained grout is usually years of trapped dirt and grease sitting in the pores, not a change to the grout itself.
